This time we have decided to be held for the first of the Hikoju Makie exhibition in Taiwan the mayor’s residence art salon(市長官邸藝文沙龍). I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. 詹炳發 and 新光證券, 瑞興銀行文化基金會.
I hope the exhibition of my Makie art at the mayors residence art salon in Taipei will allow visitors to experience the tradition, culture, history and spirit of Japan behind my work. I also hope it will provide an opportunity to introduce Japan´s refined lacquer culture and promote further interest in and understanding of lacquer art, but also create profound, transboundary resonance in visitors and lead to mutual understanding.

I am Takashi Wakamiya, producer of HIKOJU MAKIE and also the 2014 Japan Cultural Envoy. I produce urushi works (lacquer ware) in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. This time it’s my pleasure to carry out my cultural exchange mission to London, Edinburgh, Marseille, Paris, Beijing and Hong Kong from 1st November until 4rd December 2014.
Through the introduction of my works and activities in each regional museum, university and gallery, I hope to spread the knowledge of some Japanese culture.
In Paris, I had an exchange meeting with some artists and exchanged art information.
In London, just like previous years, I joined the annual of Asian Art week event. I also saw many great art works at the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the art auction houses and galleries. During the Asian Art week, many art collectors, researchrs, museum officials and artist from all over the world gathered in London. Therefore, it was a very good opportunity to share about Japanese urushi and culture.
This time I could complete the mission due to the support of many people. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. In the future, I will continue to do my best to promote the urushi art.
